The benefits of gymnastics has been shown time and time again. We at Foothills strongly believe in the benefits of doing this
sport for all ages, but this article will focus on adult gymnastics.
Most people over 25 believe that they are too old to start gymnastics. No way! It may be too old if your goal is to be
in the olympics but if your goal is to improve performance in other sports, as well as improving overall fitness and functional
strength to a level that most people never attain - then you are not too old.
What will I learn or do in my adult gymnastics class? Gymnastics is all about resistance training. Doctors have acknowledged
the long term benefits to resistance training. Resistance training improves joint health, maintains muscular development and
improves cardiovascular fitness. This is true for all ages. Stretching and flexibility is an area that is sadly lacking from
most fitness programs. Being flexible allows for more joint mobility, improves circulation and helps to prevent joint injury.
A high degree of flexibility can be acheived and maintained in gymnastics. We will do the vault, bars, beam, floor and tumbl
trak. We will use various mats to practice safely the skills that we would like to acheive.
How old is too old? No such thing. In this class we will work with all ages above 16 years of age.
I have never had a gymnastics class in my life? That is OK! We will work and build from beginner and up. You will be challenged
to do things you have never done before. The instructor will work with you individually to help you accomplish your goals.
I did gymnastics for 10 years as a child and teen and would like to get back into it. Will it be too easy for me? OK show
off, the instructor will challenge you as well. Don't worry you will get a work out and learn a few more things to add to
your gymnastics career.
Will I have FUN in this class? You betcha! Learning how to flip, swing, and come as close to self powered flight as is
possible is a BLAST! Gymnastics is anything but boring. There is always another step to learn. It is possible to learn something
new every single class. You will meet new friends as well. You can ask some of your friends to come with you and I know they
will want to after they hear about it from you and see how fit you are becoming.
Do I have to wear a Leotard? I hope you don't - oh my - any way - a sports outfit shorts and tank/shirt will be great.
Something you can move freely in. Something that you feel good in. No socks and no shoes.
How do I get started? Fill out a Student Information form and pay your registration of $30.00 and your monthly tuition
of $60.00 and you will be ready to go. If you have a child that attends Foothills you will get a $5.00 discount.
When is the class day and time? Thursday at 5:00pm. The class will last for 1 hour. Class begins on August 7, 2008.
